well, there are numerous reason's why i dig cemeteries. i've been fortunate enough to be able visit, and photograph some of the largest cemeteries in eastern europe,as well as 4 of london's 'magnificent 7',as well as vienna's zentralfriedhoff,st marx and friedhoff der namenlossen, as well as visit's to montmarte, montparnasse and pere lachaise in paris.
i've visited numerous cemeteries here in the states...from obscure plot's,to
californias city of the dead in colma...
i've been fortunate in these travel's to both see and experience firsthand how different cultures and societies celebrate the memories of the deceased,be it poet, politician, artist, anarchist or everyman...
i've seen numerous memorial's to the fallen of countless war's...to the persecuted victims of communism and the holocaust that swept through europe...
back on track, most know my passion for the monument's and statuary...
i don't quite have the right word's to say this, but the feeling and emotion that the cutters and mason put into their work is what draw's me..
then, there's the historical, political and social aspect of socities views on death and dying.
travelling about the u.s.,and being able to visit various cemeteries was an interesting journey, seeing how the immigrants carried over their traditions, and being able to see where the various 'colonies' sprang up as they settled across the country...
